Raglan visited by GB athlete
Posted ~ Friday 25 November 2011
On 23rd November, Raglan School was lucky enough to be visited by an international athlete for the day. Stephanie Gaynor, a hundred-metre hurdler who represents Great Britain, spent the whole day at Raglan encouraging all of the children to get active and involved in sports. Children from years 1-6 spent a period of time in the great hall participating in a series of aerobic activities, with Stephanie and Paul, the event organiser, demonstrating each activity and advising the children on how to perform them correctly.
The children all participated fantastically and put in maximum effort with the activities. The noise in the hall was deafening as they cheered on their classmates and the whole school took pride in trying their best to complete the circuit. It was an impressive sight to see up to 100 children packed into the Great Hall, all taking part in fitness exercises and supporting each other.
After lunch, we were treated to an inspirational assembly from Stephanie, who not only showed us some of her training exercises but also demonstrated the speed and technique needed to compete in her event. Some children were lucky enough to get the opportunity to ask Stephanie questions about her career and future aspirations, all of which should have inspired the children of Raglan to get active!
Please do not forget to get as much sponsorship as possible, as the more money we raise, the more we will be able to spend on brand new sports equipment for the whole school. Sponsorship money and forms are due in on TUESDAY 29th NOVEMBER.
