Raglan kick off season with a trio of wins!

The Raglan boys’ football team started the season in electrifying fashion last month as they recorded three wins in a row at their first set of cluster games, held at Edmonton County school. With only three of the squad of 9 having played for the school last year there were no fewer than 6 children making their debuts, and all bar the goalkeeper Malachi marked the occasion with a goal. The opening game saw Raglan play Churchfield and score after only 14 seconds, with Antony continuing where he finished last season among the goals. The lead was doubled before half time and four goals were scored after the break to give Raglan a comfortable 6-0 win. This fantastic result gave the boys the confidence and belief they needed to carry on playing their positive style of possession based carpet football against Our Lady of Lourdes, who were a much more physical and direct team than Churchfield. Raglan’s determination to impose their style on the game saw them emerge with a thoroughly well deserved 4-0 win, much to the delight of of every one of the players. The final fixture saw Raglan play Eldon and after an early goal there was no looking back as Raglan then ran out 5-0 winners. In each of the games the defence was brilliantly marshalled by Elliot, with Matthew and Milan taking turns to put in a shift at the back, while Oliver covered whenever someone pushed up. Oliver also controlled the tempo of the game from midfield, with Matthew, Milan, Devis & Zach taking turns on the wing and Antony, Devis and Zach all enjoying some game time up top. Malachi in goal might have been a spectator for large parts but he managed to remain supremely focused and when called upon his distribution & shot stopping were first class. Although he didn’t play due to an unfortunate injury, Alper came to support and give the boys plenty of encouragement. An amazing start to the season for all the players, well done boys, huzzah!
