Raglan into third round of Fursman Cup!

Raglan climb the stairway to Cup success

Raglan progressed comfortably into the third round of the Fursman Cup in after a replay against St Mary’s at the end of last month, with a comfortable 4-0 victory. After drawing 2-2 in the first meeting a rematch was held at Bishop’s Stopford and Raglan made the best use of the larger pitch by keeping the ball on the deck and creating & exploiting space in wide areas throughout the game.

Elliot got them off to a stunning start after just 40 seconds, with a sweetly struck sumptuous swerving volley that left the goalkeeper helpless. Devis then got his first of a brace with a neat finish after some fine midfield play from Oliver and Charllie, before Oliver scored a great solo effort which started in his own half. Devis then completed the scoring before half time with another well-taken goal.

After the break Raglan laid onslaught to the St Mary’s goal, but with Antony in particular having an off day shooting-wise, they were unable to add to their tally.
Malachi made a couple of vital saves but it was mainly training practice, as he had such great protection in front of him. In defence, Ben made a near perfect debut and proved to be as calm and unflappable during a match as he is in training with Elliot brilliantly supporting him.  With a MOTM performance from Matthew playing alongside them, the defence had a very solid feel to it but all three players were totally comfortable in possession too, which allowed them to push into midfield when they saw the opportunity. Charlie, Milan and Oliver took turns to dominate the midfield and thus control the game, proving that it’s not all about size at youth football level but skill and ability. Although he didn’t score Antony was a constant thorn in the side of the opposition and Devis produced his usual mix of work rate and ability.

Overall it was another pleasure display and a great way to start the New Year. Well done boys, hip-hip huzzah!
