African Drumming Report
Today Year 3 had their first African Drumming lesson. Rodgell Shadrache was our instructor. He told us that the drums were called Djembe and they came from West Africa. We found out that drums are used at many different celebrations. We learnt how to produce different types of sounds on the drums. These were called bass, slap and tone. To play the sounds you need to hit the drum skin in different places and change the position of your hands and fingers.
Rodgell is teaching us a piece of music called Kuku, which comes from Guinea. It is used to welcome back the fishermen to the village. We enjoyed our drumming session and are really looking forward to learning more next week.
