‘We especially enjoyed the lovely music that met us at every turn.’ - Ofsted Inspection, Dec 2008.

Musical excellence is provided under the able musicianship of our dedicated Director of Music Mrs Ojokor.

We have a grand piano in the Great Hall and a professional sound and lighting system. A dedicated music room, refurbished in the summer of 2008, contains an interactive whiteboard and apple-macs are used for digital music editing. We have a healthy stock of instruments, musical resources and a generous music budget.

We are a singing school and sing together at assemblies and in class. Our choir meets weekly and lead concerts - usually twice a year. A Christmas Concert is held annually and parental involvement is much appreciated.

But it’s not all traditional. We also plan Samba Drumming, African Drumming, Gospel Singing and a whole host of musical experiences from around the world, embracing a host of cultures. Many of these are led by peripatetic professionals.

All children entering Raglan are encouraged to learn a musical instrument from year 2. Music is taught from Nursery right through to Y6. Year 1 and 2 develop their singing skills and perform on percussion instruments.
All children learn the recorder in Y4, learn the keyboard in year 5 and year 6 students are encouraged to bring their own instruments into the classroom to perform Jazz and Blues. We produce our own CD’s and enjoy recording our own music. We also enjoy a Y6 production at the end of each academic year. A school orchestra will run from January 2012.

Visiting musicians enhance our curriculum and inspire children to take up the discipline of learning to play an instrument. Enfield Arts Support Service visit the school daily to provide instrumental tuition on a variety of instruments. Children are encouraged to take music Grades when they are ready and we support them as we can. Absence for music examinations is always authorized by the headmaster.
